School Styled Program- Life-Skills Program

The goal of Allstar’s Life Skills Program is to help students develop communication, social, functional academics, self-management, home and community living, and vocational skills. This program is designed with the aim of helping students to develop the skills they need to become more independent and active members of their community.

Ages: This program was devised for students aged 13 and above. Students are placed into groups based on their age and needs.

Class size: Each class has no more than six students and no less than three adults. This allows for lots of one-on-one time to be dedicated to each student.

Curriculum: Each classroom runs a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on their respective age groups. The curricula Allstar uses are research and evidence-based. Among the programs used within our classrooms are: the Strategies for Teaching based on Autism Research (STAR), Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), Numicon, Life Skills standards, etc. With the help of Allstar qualified staff, every student has an Individual Learning Plan that outlines his/her goals for the year in all or some of the following areas: behaviour, communication and language, social-emotional, motor, self-help, foundational academics, living and community skills, and work skills. The main goal of this program is to help students develop independent living skills so they can be active members of their community. As such, this program also includes units in cooking, cleaning, gardening, social skills, work skills, organization, scheduling, time management, financial management, and much more.
